About This Course

This Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) that LOGOS is appropriate for educators, students, and tourism professionals. The MOOC is titled GIS Applications in Tourism. This course offers a comprehensive introduction to Geographic Information Systems, specifically designed to enhance tourism education and practice. The MOOC begins by establishing fundamental GIS concepts before progressing to their real-world applications in tourism contexts. Participants will discover how spatial data analysis transforms destination management, resource planning, and tourist experience design. What makes this MOOC particularly valuable is its hands-on approach – learners won't just study theory, but will actively work with industry-standard ArcGIS tools to create functional tourism maps.

Designed with flexibility in mind, the course accommodates both beginners and those seeking to refresh their technical skills. The curriculum unfolds across three integrated modules: first examining core GIS principles, then investigating specialized tourism mapping techniques, and finally applying this knowledge through practical digitalization exercises.

Assessment occurs through brief knowledge checks at each stage, ensuring participants can gauge their understanding as they progress. The course will be available through the MAGNET Project's EdX platform, making it accessible to international audiences.

For tourism educators, this represents an opportunity to integrate cutting-edge spatial analysis into their teaching. Students will gain marketable technical competencies, while industry professionals can immediately apply these tools to their work. We believe this combination of theoretical foundation and practical application will serve participants throughout their careers in the tourism sector.
